The youngins will never be able to truly appreciate the profound and gripping effect that had on the country then. It's like the entire nation collectively stopped what they were doing to follow every second of this story. It was truly amazing. Not just the rescue, but the coverage of the entire ordeal. I can't really think of anything similar to compare it to. There's probably very few Americans 35/36+ who don't know who Baby Jessica is.

That just speaks to how significant it was. Cause I know in 1987 you were so shithoused and balls deep in your sister-in-law's a-hole, you could barely pay attention to anything.

While some have assumed that Jessica became wealthy as an adult, thanks to a trust fund set up by people from all over who watched the rescue unfold, she says much of the $1.2 million in the trust disappeared during a stock market dive in 2008. Much of the remaining funds went toward buying the family’s modest house, which features a large backyard for the kids.

I would love to know the details of what distributions were made before then, what the funds were invested in, what commissions were earned by brokers, and who advised her to cash out when the market went down in 2008.

We all took a hit in 2008, but if you let it ride, most general stock funds regained the loss and earned great returns during the next eight years.
