Am I the only one who finds it extremely awkward when someone thanks me for my service. I never know what to say. I just kinda stand there and say thank you. My buddy told me to say thank you for your support. Does that sound like a better reply?

The new armed forces branch favorite teams threw me for a loop

Ask teachers how they respond when someone thanks them for their service.

It used to be a little awkward until I had a friend point out that they're really not thanking me personally. They're really just expressing gratitude for the military in general and for the sacrifices that others made before and after me.

I usually reply by saying "Thanks for paying your taxes!"

I usually just say "appreciate it" and move on.
Now when I see a Vietnam vet I'll stop and tell them "welcome home". Those dudes had it rough. I've had a couple of them legit get choked up when I thank them.

Just drop a "thank you sir/ma'am" and press on

I say, "thanks, it was my honor to serve" and move on quickly

I wish that were true in all cases. Unfortunately, in many cases, especially when it's a public figure, it's done in a condescending or "check the block" manner as if to say, "thanks for doing something that's beneath me."

Thank you for going against the grain by defying TD rules about one word titles.

No, I'm right there with you. I'm just trying to save ten percent off whatever at Lowes, I don't need the insincere thank you to go along with it.

Ask for cash..
See how much they really appreciate it.

Agree those guys had it the worst. To come home to how they were treated was not fair. My dad served in Vietnam. He had photos of him and his unit in the jungles but only once did he mention any of the stories that went along with them.
It was on a brief drive he and i shared driving thru mountains of montana . I had just got out of the military myself so maybe he felt comfortable talking about it. He talked about putting some of those same guys in body bags.
It was only about a 10 min Conversation but that's when you realize these guys saw some shite and came home to a country that pretty much hated them for doing something they were told to do. He was drafted so didnt have much of a choice. So i would like to say thanks to all the veterans here and mainly the ones who died "Happy Veterans Day"

I have an former army friend and he hates it when random people thank him because he say it’s disingenuous most of the time. It’s like at a football game where people told to salute to troops who recently die and then forget about it 5 seconds later. The “Ok, we paid our respect and let’s not think about it anymore” mentality. Very disrespectful since people didn’t learn about their names, what they did, how they died”. He has a point.
