You do realize that falling gas prices is a clear sign of the economy slowing down right? A recession is coming,
Then why were gas prices higher than Willie Nelson on a helicopter before and during the Great Recession?

The Great Recession of 2008? When the shite finally hit the fan, the prices came crashing down. Here is the national monthly averages in 2008 and 2009:
2008 3.043 3.028 3.244 3.458 3.766 4.054 4.062
3.779 3.703 3.051 2.147 1.687
2009 1.788 1.923 1.959 2.049 2.266 2.631 2.527
2.616 2.554 2.551 2.651 2.607

HUH? That makes no sense. The price of oil went down GLOBALLY without any influence by Musk. More refineries opening elsewhere and no real increase in demand in China.
He knows......

1. The poster said that prices were dropping before a recession. Your data shows prices dropping while we were in a recession.
2. Prices were only down for 5 months but it took until like 2012 or so to get out of the recession.

Understand. And I do believe the past three times prices fell below $2 was after the recession hit.
But, you stated:

The Great Recession was still on in 2009. Hell, we even had Congress pass TARP II to try to get us out. So I just wanted to point out that gas prices did not remain high during the Great Recession. They started falling and kept falling.

What influence does Musk have on oil prices? I'll wait

Yeah and this ain't 2008-2009. Gas prices were > $2.00 in the second half of 2009. If you adjust the second half of 2009 prices for inflation you would need gas to be > $4 per gallon to be equivalent. >$2.00 in 2009 or >$4.00 per gallon now is higher than Willie Nelson in a helicopter to me.
