I took it as the guy was excited about the prospect of the oil industry rebounding, increasing the likelihood he would be securing employment sooner rather than later.

It's true. Refineries shut down and switch to a more expensive summer blend this causing a price increase.

This is news to refineries. They shut down to add butane to the blends?

Seems extreme.

Such a fricking scam. They always jack prices up for Summer driving, the blend is pure bullshite excuse. They also schedule all turnabout maintenance shutdowns to limit supply at peak driving times to jack gas prices up at peak demand periods.

So they have managed to artificially jack up prices in my area more than 70 cents a gallon or 30%. I wish I could do that in my business. But I am not a cartel supplying a monopoly.

Meanwhile in case u think that is good for Louisiana or has anything to do with crude prices, you would be wrong. Crude still tanking per barrel.

Well, it isn't like there is a low demand time really. Especially when weather cooperates.

Tell me you are joking... "Summer blend" is an additive, they don't shut down for "summer/winter blends"

U.S. oil stockpiles skyrocketed by 9.4 million barrels last week to 532.5 million barrels, according to figures released on Wednesday by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

That's roughly triple what analysts had been bracing for and adds to "historically high" inventory levels.

It's evidence of a deepening supply glut despite the recent rise in oil prices which would signal the opposite. Last week crude climbed above $40 a barrel for the first time since early December amid hopes that global producers will freeze their production at current levels. There have also been signs that U.S. output is gradually declining.

However, the latest EIA report shows that inventories continue to pile up in the mean time.

The spike in crude from high $20s/bbl to $40/bbl had nothing to do with numbers, it had to do with hopes, dreams, rumors and gut feelings.

I imagine it'll fall back again. There's so much oil right now that there's an oil supertanker traffic jam on the high seas.

Seems the prices spike every spring. Some say it's a switch in blends. Some say the oil companies hike the price due to summer travel. Regardless, the industry itself isn't coming back anytime soon.
