Denver is more youthful than Austin, FWIW.

But really, you're leaving Shreveport. How can you lose?

Denver, Ft. Collins, and Boulder are worth looking into for sure. The people and jobs offered will vary greatly between those three places.

Oh that's the plan. I was dating a girl for 2 years, and if we continued through my grad school and her PT school, we would have been married sometime soon. I would have moved to Mobile while she finished PT school and worked at a golf course there instead of somewhere awesome like CO, Ireland, or the tropics.

Now that we broke up almost a year ago, I see it as a second chance and that I'm supposed to go do my thing. Move around, see the country/world, have fun, be HAPPY (not that I would have been unhappy with her - she was great).

So I'm not letting this chance get by me. Exploring my options and I'll be applying for internships all over the place.

Nothing. But if someone is looking for traditional CO, they're going to be disappointed when they move to La Junta.

ETA: No state income tax in Texas, which is nice.

I don't know what effective property taxes are like in Denver , but some of my peers in Austin pay enough in extra property taxes and tolls to make up for a lack of income taxes. One guy claimed he paid $6k in property taxes and makes $85k pre-tax.

If you have a good income to home ratio then yes you'll come out ahead but $50 thousandaires over leveraging themselves for McMansions are getting soaked.

Yeah, but isn't that true everywhere?

Denver.

Austin is so fricking over rated it's not even funny. I've never seen so many homeless millionaires in my life.

Have only visited Austin, but lived in Denver (Arvada, then Lakewood to be specific) after graduation an would give it an A+++ endorsement. Got married several months later and spent the 1st 3 years of married life there. Wife and I had the time of our lives before kids came along 7 years later. Tons of stuff to do if you lead an active lifestyle. Was skeptical of the climate having lived in BR my whole life. Winters were actually not that harsh and were welcomed once I started skiing and snowmobiling. Most areas were "clean" looking and well laid out. Would move back there in a heartbeat.
