I have always heard that that sharks usually attack a surfer thinking its a seal or someother easy prey and that if you punch it in the nose that it will leave you alone. The reasoning behind that is there alot of nerve endings in its nose that it uses to search for prey so if you hit it there it will hurt the shark alot. I have no idea if that is true and just like the poke an alligator or croc in the eyes trick I have no plans or desires to ever find out.

I've seen a lot here in NE FL. Mostly smaller spinners so nothing to really worry about but a couple bulls. Had one swim right under my board as I was sitting on an ultra clear evening, just after sunset, with no one else in the water or on the beach once. That was creepy.

Also guy I went to PT school with had his thumb taken half off by a 4 foot bull who followed his hand out of water as he was paddling out. Lot of spinners breach around here too. Nice thing about s fla is water clarity tends to prevent a lot of accidental test bites.
Grew up surfing NSB... Seen my fair share but still get nervous every time.. Shark bite capital of the world.
