Is $200 a decent price to have a spring above my garage door replaced. Thank you, Jawja

I would say yes. Seems like it is $100 just to get anyone to your house for anything these days.

I recall paying about $185 2 years ago in Asheville. $200 sounds reasonable.

If you have 2 springs, change both of them. It might be 50 bucks more.

that sounds like a reasonable price to me, as $75 - $100 of that will be the service fee to show up on site...

I tried to tighten mine up myself a while back and was just scared shitless the whole time I was messing with it...I wouldn't recommend that at all...

If the spring isn't broken, it just needs the tension increased, which is a 2 man job and you'll need a properly sized pry bar and allen wrenches.

eta: and a ladder

that will get you hurt, one man job, a set of winding bars(4' x 5/16" bar from HD cut in half,) and a 1/2", 12 point socket and ratchet, wouldn't try it unless someone showed you how, not hard but there's a lot of energy on that spring and if you don't use the proper technique it will frick you up,if you think about it, air to air missiles are a set of expanding rods, and if that spring unloads on you it will be a scaled down version of that
