July 5th, that's a Tuesday. Driving from Birmingham to Gumlog.

This. Any chance you have time to turn your truck in to a technical? That would help too.
ETA: And don't cross over in to South Carolina. We're full.

At 1pm I'm going 20 to 85. I avoid 285 unless I have to take an exit off of it. If you're going south you'll be fine, north you're going straight through the city but I'd still jump on 85. Just pack your patience and you'll be fine.

Depends on where you are going but if it’s northeast of Atlanta continue through town to the east side of the perimeter and then take 285 to 85.

285 on the west side is a pita but much easier on the east side and not generally as congested as 75/85 north.

Pull over and eat a big long meal, take a snoozy in the truck, then drive through at 2am. Easy Peazy.

Pulling a boat I'm going I20 to I85 and shooting north through the city and out toward SC. If you hit it at 1pm you can't ask for much better. If you're an hour or two later you are going to hit a lot of traffic once you get north of the city outside the perimeter. If you have to stop I'd wait to get north of Buford at which point I'm guessing you are only about 1 to 1.5 hours from Gumlog.

Have Waze on max-blast, plus a second phone running Google Maps. Pro-tip: stop & restart Waze every hour or so, as Waze seems to not dynamically suggest alternate routes very much anymore. Waze still saves my bacon every day pointing out speed enforcement.
I-20 straight-through ATL is *mostly* still a good route. Stay in your left lane or two when passing 285 on the west side, that offramp to 285 stays screwed up. Take 285 outer (NB) on the east side up to 85, then hang on for dear life until you get out of Atlanta. Or Georgia for that matter.
Source: I drive a lot - and lived there for several years. Much happier now in Birmingham.

This thread is so dramatic. There is a strong chance you'll face only normal mediocre traffic, and a decent chance it's a semi clear shot.
The issue will be on the fringes coming in and out of ITP, not in the core of the city.

I85 is North-South.
In name only. In real world terms I-85 runs more East/West than North/South.

Best times I've found to go around ATL is in the early early morning, but about 25% of the time that I go around the loop at 3/4 am I find a traffic jam. Most days I cruise through though. Godspeed.

This, midday, post lunch, but not too late is your best bet on the connector. If you get lucky and there’s no dumbass stalled in 1 of the middle lanes or whatever, you can sometimes slide through there pretty quickly around then. Coin toss as to whether 285 is a parking lot or not that time of day, better odds through downtown.
