At what point does a SO become too irresponsible to be with?

Sounds like a pretty typical chick, honestly. I know there are rare exceptions, but at least she isn't racking up 150K in law school debt when the market is saturated, or worse yet still living off her parents at 24. I'd talk to her about it if it bothers you, but it could be a LOT worse.

Her debt will be your debt if you marry. Just a reminder.

ETA: Also, I'm sure she knew she got paid vacation. She just didn't want to pick up groceries because she either spent the money elsewhere or she has the "my money is mine" attitude.

The debt doesn't bother me. Paying 650/month on rent is absurd on a 33k salary. Taking unpaid vacation is even more absurd when it means you can't even afford groceries on your damn pay day

I screwed up with money big time in my 20s(racked up a lot of credit card debt while in college...back then it was easy to sign up for credit cards).

I'd say her behavior isn't something you would want her to continue longterm. But it isn't like her situation is hopeless.

When you first start getting real paychecks...it's easy to want to do the things you couldn't afford to do while broke in college. I remember buying extravagant Christmas presents for my family that first Christmas when I was a nurse. I had the money to do so and wanted to splurge. Just have a lil chat with her. She's single, no kids and her only responsibility is to herself right now. She'll figure it out. Don't be the guy that watches every penny she spends. Then she will just end up leaving you and go even crazier with the spending.

Wish I could have told myself back then to watch out.

$650 for rent is not a lot IMO

Also her debt is very small. There are plenty of people with 100ks of debt. Sounds like she handled herself well during college or her parents helped a lot.

Unless she's a pathological liar and I don't know it yet, not the case. She was dead serious. And it's not incredibly surprising. She's one of those "don't look at my bank account because id rather not know and be depressed" people. She says her company has a 401k plan but doesn't know what she contributes. She's worked there a year and didn't know that you had to designate your own money to the plan, thought the company did it automatically. Said she didn't care about the pay/benefit details when she accepted, was just happy to get the offer. Has the paperwork at home detailing it all but hasn't really gone through it all.
