When I was pregnant with my first and only child. My first sonogram revealed that he had Spina Bifida. Then he decided to enter the world 3 months early with an Omphalocele. He spent 2 months in NICU. He defies the laws of science everyday. You would never know that he had an L4 lesion and should be paralyzed. It's amazing what you're willing to sacrifice for someone you'd never met.

Someone give their definition of life getting "real"
When it happens you'll know it.
For me it was early 50's.
But as Tom Robbins says it's never too late to have a happy childhood, and I'm getting back on that track slowly but surely.

Finding out in 2003 that my wife was having twins and I was getting a trip to OIF. One of my sons was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palette. Back early on in OIF, they didn't send you home for the birth of a child for a couple weeks. I didn't see my sons until they were six months old when I came home on R&R. Lots of onion cutting in that airport.
I was 28 years old then. I'm 40 now.

Ditto.
Wife and I were 27 and had been married for about two years and both had careers when our son was born. I drove like 10 mph the entire way home from the hospital and realized quickly that my life had changed (in a good way) completely and forever.

34 here and still hasn't gotten real yet. no wife, no kids, no traumatic incident, family and friends are still healthy (haven't been to a single funeral yet). I'm still a kid-adult.

2005- I was 31. I lost 2 men in one day to an IED in Iraq. Prior to that day I thought we were invincible. I thought I was invincible. Since then I realize that it doesn't always happen to "other people". I honestly am thankful for every day now.
In many ways, that experience has made me a better person. It has also made me a little more detached emotionally. But, I let those close to me know I love them all the time and I enjoy every single day I have. You never know when it'll be your day.
