If you get a chance to watch the HBO series The Earth to the Moon, the episode that deals with Alan Bean and Pete Conrad is awesome.

Great series and one of the best episodes in it.

Dr. Buzz Aldrin (Sc.D., Astronautics, MIT) is my spirit animal.

This was the dedication page from Aldrin's 1963 MIT doctoral thesis. When he wrote this he had no test pilot experience, and he assumed no chance of being a astronaut, but in a 6 short years he would be the 2nd man on the moon, a feat made possible by the research he did for his doctorate.

"In the hopes that this work may in some way contribute to their exploration of space, this is dedicated to the crew members of this country’s present and future manned space programs. If only I could join them in their exciting endeavors!"

We never landed on the moon

I never know on the OT, who is joking and who is serious. I used to think those who denied the moon landings were dumb, and I argued with them on here and on YouTube. And even though statistics do show a direct correlation between low education level and belief in the moon landing as a hoax, I have evolved... and I really do not think you are dumb.

The moon landings did happen, and all "evidence" pointing otherwise can be so so easily shown to be wrong, to anyone with an open mind.

And again, I don't think you are dumb... you are a CULTURAL VANDAL. This is not a phrase I came up with, but I like it, and it fits.

If the Mona Lisa was unguarded, it would only take a few hours, or a day or so, for someone to come up and toss paint on it or shred it. Because of cultural vandals.

If you don't believe in the amazing achievement of mankind, something that we can all be so proud of, and still amazed by, the manned lunar landings of the 1960s/70s... I feel sorry for you.

Most importantly, though, Rest in Peace Astronaut Bean!

Buzz Aldrin LITERALLY wrote the book on rendezvous. That's why he was the LM pilot for Apollo 11. If you have to rendezvous all on your own at the moon after spending a day on the surface and failure means death, you want the guy who knows rendezvous inside and out in control the first time you try.
