happens all the time where I work, there's no question that it's discrimination, there's just not much recourse for them

I hope you young bucks take note.
If you don't fight for others then don't expect anyone to fight for you when the time comes.

Not a lot of tech companies in town and if you're in BR I'm pretty sure I know which company got absorbed in recent memory. You're long overdue to get out of there dude.

I was wondering what company too. But no lie this sounds like some shite Carlo Macdonald would condone.

There are few reasons possible other than just weirdness. I have seen a company do this pre-sale in order to make the workforce seem more attractive to potential buyers. Another would be is the age of the companies workforce concentrated in the aforementioned range? If so they could be trying to avoid a massive loss of trained employees at one time by staggering out the ages.
These would seem like the only valid reasons for a company to do this unless the older person laid off was not at random and just needed replacing.

Polish up your resume. The next guy you give tour of the facilities will be your replacement. I actually saw that happen. Second in command interviewed, recommended, and brought a guy around and introduced him. What the guy at the top didn't tell him? The guy was his replacement, not for another department head job as he thought. Two weeks later the new guy was my boss.
I had this happen to me years ago. The difference was that no-one was hired immediately. I had reduced supplier, ltl costs, rr/barge freight costs, etc and after about 5 years we streamlined the dept. The plant manager lets me go on a Monday - couldn't state why nor did he understand why - fast forward about 18 months later he was removed from his position after he had hired a younger asst manager.

Yes. Tidbits here and there. I told the COO that he would have to do it himself. He stared at me blankly for around 15 seconds. I just got up and left and as I was walking out I heard him yell "pussy!" He was visibly upset when he left early.
Somebody from accounting/HR sent me a poorly constructed "supplementary" NDA littered with typos and unenforceable BS. I sent it over to a lawyer to get advice. The other manager who was in on it went about the day as if nothing happened. Tried to shoot the shite with both the target and I on different occaisions.
We all have off tomorrow. Will be sweating it, for sure. There's some other crap that happened and some interactions with the target but I won't get into that.

stay strong brother, you are doing a admirable thing.
seems like your posting your uneditted thoughts with a timestamp in this thread would be some kind of secondary proof of your honesty throughout the day.
