The only reason you feel this way is because your at the mercy of the mechanic cause you're to fricki g stupid and/or lazy to fix your own piece of property yourself.

Feel the same way about plumbers or electricians or carpenters ?

Shirt version....GMC 2011 2500 Allison Turbodoesel. Put 20 gals gas in an empty tank. Stopped dead within 1 mile of leaving the station....
Drained tank, replaced fuel filter, driving fine but throwing a code that says the #8 glow plug is bad....am replacing it myself now. What is the chance this truck is forever screwed up? Also, should all 8 be changed at the same time?
Thanks in advance.

If the motor did not seize then you will be fine e with a filter change.

Sorry man. Kinda jaded. I've spent my entire career being honest to a fault. I cannot rest my head at night knowing I screwed someone over with their vehicle in my hands. And I still after all these years find time to do pro bono work for people truly in need.

If you have a small oil leak that sometimes gets a little oil on the timing belt, how long will this reduce the life of the belt? ( assuming the belt has a normal 150,000 mile life)

Here was my question from last night ...

Wife's 2010 CRV just got stranded at store. Starts up fine and can give it one good rev and shuts off within 2-3 seconds..did this about seven or eight times in a row and left it at the store overnight. Came back this morning and it started up fine. Still think I need to get it looked at...what do you think might be the problem? Has never done anything like this before.

Sounds like you're a decent person. Good on ya brother. I do have a local mechanic that I wholeheartedly trust if either me or my dad can't fix any auto issues I have. I'm well aware there are honest ones and bad ones like any profession. Was just poking a little fun

Bought a used BMW X5 from Carmax. I am going to drive it for a couple thousand miles and change the oil myself because I do not trust that Carmax used the correct oil. Should I be ok or should I change it immediately? If damage were to occur, would Carmax be liable?

Sounds like the CRV needs some new plugs. They were more than likely fuel fouled and finally cleaned off enough to finally crank

You will be fine. Put Mobil 1 synthetic in it with the recommended factory filter. Keep receipts!

I just limped home a car that apparently needs a new radiator. Should be a fun Sunday.

I've been a long time poster on this site and try my best to help just like our friend Napoleon with our home appliances like and am satisfied to help you all out and spread our wealth of information in hopes it will help you all out with troublesome issues.
This thread was not at all meant to be any sort of advertisement but I just need to drop this little bit of information for the local BR residents.
225-667-4111 Is a number for a little mechanic shop in Walker, LA who's owner I owe all of my mechanical knowledge to. His name is Terry Fournet and he is as good as gold. I'm there in Friday's only and would be willing to help out any time y'all need. He's there the rest of the time if you need something done any other day.
