Native Americans have it worse.

If you want to get into the history thing, this is true. The white man came in, took their land and tried to force them to live a certain way. Fast forward to today and most of them live in poverty, alcoholism and suicide is through the roof.. Yeah a few own casinos, but as a whole, native Americans have it bad. But then again.. Who do you blame for that?

Emmet Till

my friends grandfather was DA that prosecuted the white people that murdered Emmet Till. they had to sell their family home and move out of state for a long time after the trial.

since according to you, "moving forward" is "bull shite", what do you propose?

I don't think most people know who Shaun King is.

If you are looking for leaders in our community you're not looking hard enough . Most areas have people who commit their lives to helping others get ahead. Guess what they're not in TV

White people are very obtuse when it comes to the notion of a "black leader".

They see a black man on TV talking about racial issues, " Oh that must their leader". I.e. Jesse and Al

Now they see a black guy on social fricking media tweeting about racial issues "oh that must be the new black leader"

Black people have continuously progressed in this country, mostly in spite off, that doesn't mean we should forget the past, even if it makes white people uncomfortable

Oh and no one was ever prosecuted for the murder of Emmett Till

Wikipedia disagrees

In September 1955, Bryant and Milam were acquitted by an all-white jury of Till's kidnapping and murder

you may not be as black as think your are. Gerald Chatham Sr. was the prosecuting DA. He had to sell his family home in Hernando MS and relocated his family to Missouri during and quite some time after the trial. The jury voted "not guilty" to both of the guys that were charged despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

But I guess it's easier for you to claim no one was ever prosecuted than to accept a white person put his own life and family's lives at risk in order to do the right thing since it doesn't support your narrative.

I'm sure you have, but that acknowledgment doesn't make it fair to tell people move on or stop using it as a crutch(which I don't think most people do)

I already admitted I used the wrong word.

My "narrative" is supported by simplying saying that in 1955 a white person could murder a 14 year old black kid and a jury of white people could not convict them despite the evidence presented. That was not 100 years ago .

My point is that we are not that far removed from this type of racial violence

The lack of reparatiOns for the former slaves and their descendants is one of the gravest and embarrassing inactions in USA history. I attribute it to 60% of our problems today . Even the nazis paid back the Jews. That alone should embarrass us
--------

So what's the appropriate amount ?

i have at least 10 black friends on FB

I dont believe I have ever said move on, I do think Ive suggested it ought to be put in perspective

I think it impossible to even things out, those that truly suffered have long since passed. The older generation that still lives, those that experienced mistreatment as late as the 70s are much older and arent as angry as the younger generation that seem to use the past as an excuse or political bargaining chip

it might not be fair, but life isnt fair.
Its time that we move on, not forget the past but move past it .
