User cars have become a huge rip off

They are their own circular business now.

Dealers don't want to sell you a used car.

They want to sell you a new car at a ridiculous price, the buy it back from you a few years later at a super low price then finance out that used car until it breaks

I found a 2013 F-150 King Ranch this past year that I really liked and wanted, but it had nearly 70k miles on it and $36k was the rock bottom they'd do for me. That's rank insanity.

I ended up getting a brand new Tundra a few months later for ~$39k.

I like F-150s and I think about that truck every so often whenever I see one, but then I remind myself that I got a brand new truck with just 5 miles on it for nearly the same pricepoint.

That F150 likely has a lot more features than your Tundra, but you're definitely right about the value being through the roof on used trucks. There is almost no reason to not buy new if you're in the market for a full size 1/2 ton truck.

I don't see the word "investment" once in the entire article.

The price is through the roof. There's very little value in them.

Keep on buying those $70k king ranches though you $30k/yr millionaires

No one is paying $70k for a KR, not even for a loaded out diesel super duty one. (almost, as I'm sure there are a few people that don't do an ounce of research)No one pays sticker.

There have also been reports of increased foreclosure activity this year as well as restaurant corporations seeing reduced revenue.

I think there may be a downturn brewing, at least in some areas.

But all those memes about Obama said the economy is the best it's been in forever.

Here is an article about the cost of cars since 1975. (SIAP) That year average cost was $3800, or $16,578 in 2015 dollars. 2015 average cost was $31,252. So what drives up that cost? Labor? Material? Greed?

The government mandates average fuel economy from automakers, so they use more expensive material to save weight especially on popular products.
