Before Sand Hill's air conditioned condo towers came fully online. I feel sorry for recruits that didn't get to experience WW2 era barracks for Basic and AIT, etc.. Hooah!
If it makes you feel any better the AC in the 'starship' buildings didn't work. At least in my bay.
eta- North Ft. Lewis still has a bunch of those buildings that still get some use during exercises.

Harmony Church (2nd ITB) versus Sand Hill (1st ITB). It always comes down to that for the old school Benning boys (1981 breh - Sand Hilton).

It's later and maybe you've had a few, wanna tell us which row?

Yep, our cycle was right in the middle of 2nd ITB, sometimes had to halt for tanks coming through..
Loved detail days on the tank ranges or OCS Grub Hall KP days..no DIs in sight..could eat all the ice cream sandwiches and fruit you could stuff in your pockets.

Sober as a church mouse bro (do not drink). But I am somewhere in the top three rows.
That is as close as I will let it get out.
I routinely show young Soldiers a picture of me in the OD fatigues and steel helmet (the individual "Hooah" one with the rubber duck M16) to get a laugh. They cannot believe this crazy old colonel was once a young buck private at Fort Benning.

Those old BDUs had zero breathability..and were a twenty pound wet diaper when drenched with sweat or water...and chafed like a mother.

Fair enough. I think we all learned a lesson from that Arkansas judge who said a little too much on here.

So we are the two older gentlemen in this discussion. I was bummed because the Army had just switched from khakis to the sage green uniform shirt when I came in. We were still authorized to wear them but they were not issued. Went downtown to Columbus and bought me a set second hand from a surplus store. Loved the way they looked with that infantry cord and blue backings on my brass. And I remember in 1983 we switched from OD fatigues to the first version of the BDUs with the "Elvis" collars. Memories.

You drop me a line at _______@gmail.com and I will tell you which one I am and even pass along that goofy pic of me with the rubber duck. I still get a chuckle from it. To be young and stupid again.

By the Spring of 1987, though still substantial, the BDUs we were issued weren't quite Elvis headlining at The Vegas Hilton collars, but must've been built for a possible Cold War showdown between Ronnie and Gorby? Thick!
Wore my summer weights every chance I could.

So what do you perceive to be the problem? That a woman was there, or that rapists were there?
Both. She enabled being raped by simply being there. I guess it's surprising this happens in war. There's a reason historically women haven't served in combat for millennia.

Wasn't sure if there was or not for infantry. Guess she's lucky there.
