We are in complete agreement on this post. 100%

Except one part I think is worth pointing out.

They call it defunding,

While sensible people, like you and I, believe that “defunding” is never the answer. There is a segment of the “defund the police” crowd that absolutely wants to abolish police and we have seen cases where city councils are in fact slashing police budgets. Which is downright retarded.

Yep that's the "placating of the angry mob" I was talking about. It's a lazy approach that won't fix anything, and in fact, will probably make it worse.

I've only spent a weekend there, but it seemed fun enough. Hope all is going well for you.

It's been really nice, all things covid considered.

The only major downside is the homeless issue, which is another catch 22 situation. The city is so good at housing the homeless (highest rate it's ever been) that they come in, whether on their own or rumored to be "bussed in," from Dallas/Houston to take advantage. Add in the shut down of bars, limitations on restaurants, and cancellations of massive festivals, people so dependent on tourism/service industry/music scene hurt even worse. Even though more homeless are being housed than ever before, there are now more homeless than ever before thus the catch 22.

The guy that got killed was probably fricking with him to make him think the rioters were coming to get him.

No excuse. One of the main rules of shooting is to know your target and what you’re shooting at followed by knowing what is behind your target.

Never blindly shoot without seeing and understanding the target. He should have looked through a window or opened the door with the gun raised first.
