Here is the original version... (sorry Brian Williams, Aretha did not write it, it was written by a man talking to a woman, wanting respect when he gets home from work).

Trivia tidbit: It wasn't Otis' original that inspired Aretha to cut the song, but rather this garage band remake, which she heard on a local Detroit radio station:

The Rationals - "Respect"

I figured most people did as well. Also, in the 60's and 70's it was a pretty common occurrence for people to record songs already released by other artists.
