The behavior of light as a particle or wave is dependent on whether it is being observed.
That’s our perception. Actually, a light wave will collapse to a particle because of any disturbance in its path, not just from a human observing it.

You should listen to the “Pete Holmes” podcast. Not even joking.

Did anything exist before evolution produced an organism that could perceive it? Our conclusion has to be that yes, it did.
You are that organism. You perceive your own existence as well as everything that supports that existence. You are part of existence and will remain so after your brain’s process of consciousness ends.
So you're saying I'm really 4.5 billion years old instead of 32?

More like 13.7 billion years. As a life form, though, you (and me and every other living thing - all being exactly the same age) are about 3.8 billion years old. You are older than your great grandparents and anything else that has died before you.

Not by your logic. When they died they turned to dust and rejoined the cycle.

Every atom of their being still exists, yes, but as a sentient life form they ceased to exist. Pay attention.

Not following here. How does that make sense? Wouldn't they just be as old as me?

Life began on earth as long ago as 3.8 billion years ago and has persisted as a chemical chain reaction to today. When someone dies, their branch of the chain reaction stops. Thus the branches still living are older.

Thoughts on this?
You only exist because I do, once I go away (die), do you still exist?

I did, but that's beside the point. Just curious what others think

If my butthole itches
and I'm not there to scratch it,
then who will scratch my butthole?
Mama, is that you?
Father, is that you?
Brother, is that you?
Sister, will you scratch my butthole?
No answer.
No sound.
Only the twitching of my butthole.
Only the itching of my butthole.
and I'm not there to scratch it,
then who will scratch my butthole?
Mama, is that you?
Father, is that you?
Brother, is that you?
Sister, will you scratch my butthole?

Only the itching of my butthole.
