The Brits solve this with mandated "Last Call" for drinks.

One hotel I stayed at was a family (not dot) owned place and the family invited me to join them after hour. The whole family showed up, and the family bar stayed open to about 3a.m. No tabs were run.

quote:

If you've ever worked in a restaurant, or if your friend ever thought in that sense, he would NOT do it. It's an unspoken rule that it delays what most of them want to do, especially the kitchen--to go home!

The people who do who tip extra, I think that's also more tolerable.

I often say that everyone should work in some customer service position at some point to understand how some people treat you and then it can positively affect how you treat others when you're the customer.

Whether it's rideshare, retail, working at a restaurant, hotel, etc. when you're all of a sudden the one who is having to stay late or getting yelled at over something you have no control over, you all of a sudden have an appreciation for what others working those jobs have to deal with and treat them nicer.

I think sometimes you can forget that the rideshare driver, or waitress, or checkout person at Target is a real person with a life, just like you.
