Around 10k feet, but the plane was also going slow as frick. So slow, that the pilots were fearful the engines would stall.

He also chose to hijack a 727 because of the unique rear entry/exit door.

I fly in the military version of a 737. We fly anywhere from 200 ft to 40k ft and we do not carry parachutes since we have a better shot of surviving by crash landing the plane.

If something crazy happens then we are screwed.

Is there a problem that could happen while flying that would not be defined as crazy?

That pressure drop would kill you.
The pressure difference is so great, that you couldn't even open the doors on the side of the plane. It would require an unrealistic amount of force. The plane is essentially a vacuum. And if the plane split in half, you'd be sucked out and either killed instantly or knocked out at the very least. Parachute would do absolutely no good. Sorry to crush your spirit. But if a plane is fricked, so are you. Unless the pilot could pull off a miraculous emergency landing.

Many times there are issues that cause depressurization more slowly and the plane descends rapidly to help.

Or other issue that isn't a complete breakup at 30k ft.

The funny thing is, if you're sucked out of a plane at cruising altitude, it's not the fall that'll kill you but you freezing and suffocating to death

Lose an engine or a piece of the aircraft where we can't continue flying. Most commercial airliners are designed to fly with only one engine, one wing, etc. just not for a prolonged period of time.

I would define crazy as anything that happens that wouldn't keep the cabin intact or losing both wings .

Well yea I'd generally consider losing both wings as a serious problem.

Something that might save your life should you get sucked out of the plane?

This reminds me of a flight I had in the late 80's. I was in an aisle seat and a little old lady was sitting in the middle seat next to me. I watched as she kept trying to grab something under her seat so I asked if she had dropped something and needed help retrieving it.

She said that she hadn't dropped anything and that she was looking for her parachute. I smile a bit and told her that modern aircraft did not have parachutes on board.

The frightened look on her face when it sunk in that she had no parachute I will never forget.
