Definitely last names.
How many first names started out as last names?

I did my doctoral dissertation on this very subject. The results I found were really fascinating.

I got high before I read your question, now I've been stuck for 4 hours trying to figure out this riddle.

Before or after the substitution of Y and the introduction of Brayden, Cayden, Jayden?

Better question...

I think that there are an even amount of first names and last names... I would also think that there are the same amount of first names and last names as there are people. Now if you are talking about the different amount of common first names as opposed to common last names, a rephrased question would still probably not help you get an answer...

You can have a first name without a last name, but you can't have a last name without a first name. That's simple math.

definitely last names. We'll never run out of first names as long as whities continue to throw random "ynne"s and x's into normal names and the black folks keep throwing apostrophes everywhere.
