Thinking about aol or aim always makes me nostalgic

Ahh, The glory days of Internet hookups. No expectation that you have enough information online to dox yourself, no real way for sloots to stalk you, just a/s/l in ... and see your way out....

Use to hangout on efnet back in the day and a small 30-40 user network of some gaming buddies. This thread brings me back like some gaming board threads.

I'm much younger than a lot of y'all, I had an AIM account for a while, and it was pretty cool in my adolescent eyes...and then came xanga and MySpace.

This was such a big thing when I was in middle school and the beginning of high school. Almost kind of sad to see it go.

I used to peruse Match.com and enter the girls' user names into AOL messenger, because they would often use the same name for each.

I had some success with this tactic.

How do I say goodbye to what we had
The good times that made us that outweighed the bad
I thought we'd get to see forever
But forever's gone away
It's so hard to say goodbye to my homies

I used to leave up all kinds of super inappropriate away messages, like various euphemisms for masturbating, on the family computer in the middle of the house thinking that I was hilarious, and my dad would get pissed at me. Man, I was such a shite.

AOL really is an amazing story. From nothing to on top of the world back to nothing in the blink of an eye.

If they had only acted a little sooner to buy up broadband companies, things could have been different. Pour one out on one of those old AOL discs.

Edit...Wow. I was wrong about them going to nothing. Had no clue it was spun back out and was gobbled up again in 2015 for 4.4 billion.

Ahhhh, AIM And Yahoo messenger.

I have a wonderful daughter that is asleep on the other side of the house that wouldn't be here without AIM and Yahoo messenger.

Also have a crazy ex wife due to them.

Also lots of great stories.

My aim years were 6th-9th grade and I’m honestly pissed Facebook came around and fricked it all up. I spent hours every night on AIM and killed it. Really wish it would have lasted through high school as a big thing.

I miss it every day. Would give absolutely anything to go back.

We had 2 computers in our computer room and whenever a friend was over, we’d both get on and it wasn’t just a fricking blast for some reason. If you didn’t have a bunch of convos going, you could join some chat rooms and just frick around in there to kill time until people signed on. I can fricking hear those sounds/alerts of getting a message and people signing on and off in my head and it’s amazing. frick time and getting older
