Builder got me an estimate on elura speakers. Was thinking of going with Klipsch speakers for the living room. Anyone with any experience trying these speakers?

You shouldn't buy speakers on anyone's opinion. Speakers should always be demoed because it is one of the consumer items people have vastly different tastes in. I like speakers with a bit of a upper bass hump, very neutral midrange and I like upper treble that many people would say is "hot" so what I prefer is useless to you unless we share the same tastes.

Elura makes decent architectural speakers that a lot of people like. One thing I have noticed is lots of installers have been pushing them hard for the last 5-6 years which indicates to me that they are a high margin product.

Klipsch makes very good speakers and very meh speakers it depends on what you are looking at. For architectural speakers I prefer Focal and Revel but not sure what your budget is because Elura and Klipsch have wide ranges. In general, I avoid in-wall and in-ceiling speakers as much as possible because they are all flawed significantly but some handle the design constraints better than others.

My friend in NOLA is chomping to get a set of Shindo Latour speakers…field-coil craziness. Nutty how efficient those things are with such low power. I can’t wait to hear them.

I’d ask for two wall mounted speakers facing the same way the TV does. Basically run that and maybe add a sub.

Two of these instead of 5 of the others… https://www.mstrbrand.com/collections/elura/products/elura-s6-5iw-6-5-in-wall-speaker

I had a pair of L96's for over 25 years. Those were some amazing speakers

Is this your main TV watching room?

If so and you are only going to use 5 speakers I would suggest the L/C/R speakers be on each side of the TV and below it for the center. You really want all three at the same height but it is a tradeoff between having the TV and the speakers both at the correct height, a compromise you have to make unless you are using a PJ with an acoustically transparent screen. Don't scrimp on the center channel since about 70% of you average movie material is reproduced there. You also want L/R speakers that match as closely as possible for various reasons. For the two surrounds, I would suggest putting them on the wall instead of the ceiling but that is usually a spousal acceptance factor question.

I would suggest a couple of future proof on the speaker side:

5 is relatively outdated I would run speaker wire for at least 9 speakers if not 11/13/15. Not such a big issue if you have attic access the the top of all the walls but always cheaper now than later.

I would wire for at least 1 sub if not more. Admittedly it is impossible to determine where a sub should be in a room without actually testing it but spousal acceptance factors require most of them to be in corners anyway which is unlikely to be optimum. You can simply run RG6 through the walls. Some people will cringe at the impedance mismatch but at subwoofer frequencies, you will never hear it and probably can't even measure a difference in sound.

If Stereophile recommends something it’s a safe bet.

There’s nothing more subjective than speakers and headphones.

I have a Shindo Vosne preamp and Cortese power amp—8 watts of Class A beauty to drive my Zu Audio full range, or drive the pair of Klipsch La Scala I am currently restoring.

I have 6 pair throughout my home. Noticeable better than proficient I had before, but that is the only other brand I’ve had in my home.

I priced them but ended up with Polk VT60 for $50 each. They sound great for literally 25% of the cost

You can spend a shitload of money on speakers, but if you don’t have a high end power source and elite quality cables/connections , you will not get the full value of what you spent

There is an entire global subculture of audiophiles who spend astronomical amounts of money on home stereos

You forgot the sarcasm font.

I love to go into listening rooms with thousands of dollars in interconnects and speaker wires and little to no room treatment. Half the time they have a horrible mode right at their listening position. If they have standard single-ply sheetrock they will have a resonance around 70hz and the first reflections often nuddy the sound to the point it is maddening. Your post was directed at someone planning to put speakers in-wall/in-ceiling.

Spend money #1 on speakers and #2 on the room. The speaker/room combinations are by far the most important part of quality sound reproduction. Cabling and other "tweeks" are 99% placebo as effective as dying your CDs green.
