For me, these kind of threads are the ones I enjoy reading on here. The struggle is real, and it comes in many forms. I basically had to do a start-over, partly from my own mistakes, but also finally seeing how the path I was on wasn't what I wanted to do in life. I would agree with what supadave said about not worrying about everybody else, just focus on yourself and what you want to do. The worst thing to me was when I thought about going through with a big change, but didn't, and a few years later having regret because I know I still must do it, but I just wasted a couple years for whatever insignificant reason. I am 32, but I like to think of age/youthfulness as a state of mind.

For some reason this quote from Benjamin Button has always stuck with me:

“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.”

I retired at the age of 58 as 30 plus years in mental health was sufficient and didn't feel like re-inventing myself - career wise, again - was time to step aside. Pastored a church simultaneously for 10 of those last 30 plus years and continued for a couple of years thereafter - was another gift from God as He gave me "desires of my heart".

As for now, am a Executive Branch Director of two YMCAs, which I never envisioned doing, and am having much fun - 63 plus years old now.

Have been married for 40 plus years, 3 children, 9 grands and have precious few regrets....possibly too much time in the office in my mid-career years.

Am not finished, contemplating a Distributorship and look forward to many more years with my family.

I will seek further inspiration from Benjamin Button, thanks

Lots of soul searching going on in the OT tonight, thanks for all your words of wisdom.

Really giving me the courage and support to persevere and battle through a tough night.

The sun will come up in the morning and a new day will begin, thanks everybody

As long as youre at peace with whatever youre leaving behind, you can start over at any age. It wont necessarily be easy but youll be in the right frame of mind.

If youre bitter, resentful, or regretful about your previous life, it might be a slog.

Hey man, thx for the kind thoughts.

I think something there is relevant. I'm lucky in a way. I lived my life to the fullest before I got cancer. Trust me, trying to do that after getting cancer is almost impossible.

I have ppl say, after being told you'll be dead soon, that it's time to start living. I don't say it but getting the death notice ain't the time to start trying to enjoy life. Better enjoy it before you know it'll be gone.

And I'm lucky, I have nothing else I want to do. Seen and done what I wanted before all of this.

Get busy living bro.

Hang in there. I had lost many family members to cancer. I have one niece been fighting it the last 5 years. She is only 40 now.
