I wouldn't do it. In my last house, I did it and they took the average of the previous owner and that's where we started. It started around $130. After about a year, I got the "average" down to like $45 in May at one point. A little less than two years later, I bought my current house. My last bill was in March and I want to say it was around $220. Seems kind of far fetched that I was using enough to make my average that high in a month where very little electricity is used.

I have it with Cleco. My bill can swing from $250 winter to pushing $800 summer. It doesn't stay the same but constantly adjusts a little bit, usually in the $350 -400 range.

Basically you're trusting a utility company in Louosiana to not frick you over any more than they already are.

Good luck with that.

$800 summer

You need to go fill a sock full of salt and hang it over your meter (don't get caught!).

I have Cleco and have been tossing this idea around about 'levelized' billing. Winter months my lowest bill is $130 and summer gets up to $385-400. Just don't anyone around me that has it to get feedback

4400 living,3 AC units, pool, ice machine, 2 refrigerators, 3-4 computers etc. Someone almost always home. 2 teenagers. House is 12 years old so no spray foam. We have gas heat so that goes up in the winter and electric goes down.

And the kicker is we keep the AC on 74-75 lol

I've heard of putting copper inside meters but a bag of salt? WTF would that do?

I'm far from an expert in this area but I would definitely looking in some home energy saving solutions. For most people saving 10-20% off their energy bill isn't work the cost overall of installing retrofit insulation or even solar panels. However, your bill is so high spending a decent bit on money on this is worth it if you can know at least 20% off your bill.

I've been doing levelized billing for 5 years and it's awesome. It helps our budget much better in the heat of the summer.

I just take the peak price for the summer and use that as my baseline for budgeting. Since I'm on a 6 week cycle from when the bill posts to when its withdrawn I can adjust my monthly budget accordingly.

IDK if we can have solar panels with the HOA, I could definitely spray foam the attic and that would help and will eventually do that. There are a lot of other places we could cut usage before we spend money on that. Our house is just big and it will never be cheap without a major shift in lifestyle and usage.

On average my bill is roughly $42 per month

I call and asked Entergy about Leveled billing and they told me it would roughly $80 per month for me.

Obviously, I stick to traditional billing. Just make sure the amount per month is worth it.

They may charge you 80 the first month then when they start to track your actual usage it will go down to reflect that. it may go down to 20 until it balances out. If your bill is $40 year round then no leveling needed lol.
