my forester has been solid. the awd comes in handy in montana. but in non snow/icy climates, i'm not sure it's worth the mediocre fuel efficiency (I've never hit 30mpg even driving like a granny on long flat highways). it does feel really stable in heavy rains though, so perhaps.
ot: my next car is going to be the VW Sportwagen diesel TDI with AWD and Subaru-like ground clearance. It doesn't exist yet, but should be out later this year. Not sure how the AWD is going to affect it but the current regular TDI sportwagens are pushing 50MPG hwy.

I bought a WRX sedan and it is loud relative to my wife's Accord. I didn't drive any of the non turbo cars/suvs. The flat 4 and AWD probably account for a little more noise than a 2wd car.
There is more road noise because they sacrificed comfort for performance. If you want it to be a bit quieter stuff some Dynamat in the doors.

Those look pretty damn cool, I just wouldn't want to deal with the maintenance costs of a VW.

You might want to check out my thread from last night about worst used vehicles. VW has some issues. May not be the case with this particular model though.

I figured that as a lesbian car, it should fit me just about right. I quit shaving. I like motorcycles and comfortable shoes. I like golf even if I'm not as good as most guys. There are more similarities.... I think I'm like 80% lesbian.

yeah, i might wait to see how the newly tweaked TDI engine is and wait for some reviews. who knows if they'll even do the AWD TDI but word on the street is they are.

got two vehicles, a '03 WRX that has never had a problem except for replacing oxygen sensor
absolute beast, love it.. i have kept it parked with the excpetion of loaing it out to a girl that works for me to drive to work when her car was in the shop
my other car is a '08 dakota that i got because of the lfetime powertrain that i have had to replace the wheel bearings twice.. besides for that and a few electrical problems with the sound adjustment in the steering wheel, no problems
but, every other car i buy till the day i die will be a subaru, they are the tits
i drive a truck, but if the gf/wife needs a car, her arse is getting a subaru
best. in. the. world.

I'm no liberal hippy....and I'll be trading in my 4x4 pickup within the next couple of years for a Subaru Outback 3.6 or Volvo XC70 wagon. My wife will probably drive it. The people I know with those kinds of cars now are gun toting conservatives with no need for a pickup truck but need a four wheel drive family vehicle.

Nah, that was said in jest. Round mountains can be real mountains.

of course ol' sport, all in fun
i love the applachia in the fall, so glorious looking at all the colors and bathing in their splender
did you know that the appy mtns are about 400 million years older than the rockies? Hence, the reason they are rounded off.. also the reason they have trees! Not comparing them to other mountainous regions for looking bleak and inhabitable for wildlife
did you know the new river is the second oldest river in the world? It does not have salmon..

Performance was highest on the list than comfort. If I was looking at comfort as well I may have gotten a Focus ST.
