Ou sure you don't have a bird or a squirrel trying to build a nest up there somewhere

This. You likely have a squirrel or chipmunks bringing plant matter in to build a nest. They are coming through a hole in your fascia most likely.

Do you happen to have a metal roof that has a ridge vent?

And they're just randomly sticking them on boards and insulation? Nah.

No, they're falling off the branches as they're dragging them in, idiot.

Bed bugs

It's sycamore seed crap, and some critters are dragging it into your attic on their fur. It falls off as they scurry around in your attic. Try peanut butter as bait on some rat traps.

Almost looks like dried crape myrtle leaves/flowers. That storm may have blew them up somehow into your attic. Check for leaks or holes

Interesting. They are in the middle of the attic, and a trail of them.

I had the same thing in mine but different type of plant matter when I went up there earlier in the week.

Upon further inspection, the "trail" is at the top of the pitch in my roof where it's vented out with a ridge vent. My suspicion is the high winds over the last week with the storm sent this in.

I'm not going to call you an idiot, but from my experience:

Mice and rats make their indoor nests from material that they tear up near the nest, like paper, cloth, or wood.

If it's squirrels, I don't see them making an attic nest in the Houston area this time of year. It's too hot, and they will likely build their nests outdoors in trees.

you got a lil critter roaming around

there's an entrance somewhere

don't wait too long

I had a squirrel in the eaves once, ammonia cleared out the adult, but there were babies left behind, so adult came backafter the air cleared
