I came across this doing some research for someone and this is all I could pull off the internet. Any additional info on it would be great.

Lake Forest and Eastover were really planned to be nice communities. An early version of the Master Planned Community. What killed it was the fact it was still in Orleans Parish. People realized they didn't want to live in the city anymore, no matter how nice and new the stuff was, and moved across the lake.
The oil bust certainly didn't help the east either. Even though it never got the big new money it was built for, it did get a lot of decent middle class families. When the oil bust hit, they lost their homes, foreclosures, in comes the slum lords, and away you go.

Lake Forrest and Eastover are still probably nicer than most OTers neighborhoods. I am shocked by how nice the area is, but at the same time, you have a lot of empty houses.
thread I had on eastover, but the image hosting site folded.

Katrina really hurt those places bad.

That sign. NO East was advertised as the "new" NO back in the day. Funny how things change.

I wish you still had those photos up so we could see a Then versus Today comparison of the photos.
I just saw a 5 bedroom/4 bath house 4,666 feet of Living Sq Ft go under contract in Eastover for $479k and another 5 bedroom/5 Bath for 4,318 of Living Sq ft for $379k. Those prices are the equivalent of giving away the property.

I played golf at Eastover a few times in the late 90's and thought the course and houses were very nice

I used to work there as a court attendant while going to UNO. I graduated in 1975. I still have a racquet head cover that says Lake Forest Racquet Club Roy Bartlett III was the tennis pro. Very fun back in the day. I wish I had pictures. Tom Fitsimones
