There’s a bunch of jerks on this site. Don’t let them Discourage you from selling cars. I wish you the best of luck.

Which most of the time isn't fleecing an uneducated new buyer. Making a quick buck now to assure no repeat business isn't really the best practice.

Why would there be no repeat business, the buyer obviously thought the price was fair, or they would not have bought the car?

well they probably started somewhere?

I have tried getting into technical sales, but they all require sales experience. I don't have to sell cars forever. But if I get in there and am making 100k in a year, I might.

So what constitutes fleecing a buyer? If a customer agrees to pay sticker price and does not haggle the price down that is fleecing or ripping someone off. What is an acceptable profit on a car sale? $500? $1000? $2000?

FWIW, most dealerships lose money on all new car sales. Customers get good deals more often than not

People buy new cars every 5-6 years on average. The salesmen don't care what is gonna happen in 5-6 years

This seems like an unsustainable business model....

well new cars are only 20% of most dealerships. Used cars and servicing make up a lot of the business

I am not, but maybe somewhere down the line I could get close. I am also not for sure doing it yet

If you took the sales job, would it hurt your ability to go back to your previous field?

If you could work something out with your friend/potential boss to perhaps fudge your job title there slightly, maybe you could go work there while you continue your job search?

I don't think it would hurt my prospects of going back. I wouldn't be getting continued experience in the purchasing field, but I have 3 years and also don't love this job.

My friend/boss would be willing to help me anyway he could. I would definitely continue my job search while I was there, and he would understand that. Those are both good suggestions, thank you. That is part of the reason I am considering making the move, because I could continue searching while making more money than I am now (I make shite money now)

It sounds like it might actually be a good move for you. Maybe it will even lead you to a position with a car company or something related that you'd never thought of before.

Wishing you the very best!

I am thinking of selling my house if I get multiple offers am I being slimy for accepting the higher offer, or not accepting any of the offers because I think I can get more money for it later? It is not my job or the car salesman to determine if the buyer is making a educated purchase, they walked in of their own free will and could leave if they don't like the price

Exactly correct. The salesman is an agent of the dealership, not the car buyer. His job is to make his company the most money possible. The position that the salesman is supposed to protect the buyer's money is simply ridiculous.

Couple of things, first, I think you are completely overestimating your relationship with your friend. Hes not going to let his numbers slip or bad performance just because your his friend. Also, how do you expect to make money selling cars and still look for a job. To make decent money, you're going to have to work a lot of hours. I'm really not trying to be a dick, but I think you're blinding yourself because you don't like your current job.

I’m certainly never going to turn in a bad performance regardless of job. I am more than capable.

Looking for jobs isn’t as time consuming as it used to be. I fill out applications and send resumes most days

But I will give you that last point, I am certainly jaded/blinded by my hatred of my current situation
