2 downvotes, but I would love to hear of a nicer town in Louisiana.

Ruston, La

You get everything Madison offers without having to be close to Jackson/in Mississippi.

Ruston might be ok but the public schools are worse and the commute time to Monroe would suck.

just checked out the demographics.. nuff said

It's only 30 minutes and why would you need to commute to Monroe? The high school is fine (not great), but the grammar schools are very good.

I grew up there. Great place to live and raise kids. Cost of living is reasonable. Tons of people that have/share the same interests. Crime isn't bad even though jackson is close by. I don't live there now, but will most likely move back when it's time to start having kids/settle down.

All these Louisiana people talking shite about Mississippi need to look in the mirror. Y'all live in a state with Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Mississippi is much safer than LA.

I currently live in the area and can say that it is easily the nicest of the towns that I have lived in. Been here nearly a decade and have not noticed anything negative yet.

I'll try but when you drive up to Lake Caroline it's ridiculous how nice it is. Homes on the lake and a nice golf course. You're a good 45 minute drive from the dindus.

Lost Rabbit is in Madison and it's absolutely gorgeous. I believe the developer got arrested for fraud tho (I'm not sure). It's supposed to be its own municipality and people were promised that but I don't think the paperwork was done to make it happen or it wasn't bonded correctly or something.

So lots and homes are going for cheaper and the area is absolutely perfect.

The public schools in Lincoln county are pretty good. The one my wife works at scored in top 15% in the country several years ago. Brookhaven public school not so great though. As for the state, you take out Hinds county (Jackson) and the delta then Mississippi looks a lot better.

there are hardly any jobs in Ruston. Madison has Jackson, Flowood, Brandon, and all those other places that old Jackson residents fled to. you can't even compare the two in my opinion. if Ruston's high school was better, I may agree, but it looks pretty bad. may be a good place to live but not to raise a family.

There really doesn't seem to be a nicer place to live easy of the Mississippi when you factor in cost of living. Houses seem super affordable for the quality of city/town/area/schools/etc...

The nicer neighborhoods in the Jackson Metro Area of MS are nicer than any I've seen in the Baton Rouge Metro Area and it's not even close.

Because they are woefully segregated and make no issues about it. It's blacks and whites wanting nothing to do with each other. Been that way since 80s after one decade of unity.

I live in Reservoir Brandon and here the elementary schools like Highland Bluff and Northshore are some of the best in the state.

Public high schools I hear Brandon High and Pearl High are both really good (which are both not in the Reservoir area).

Reservoir area has Northwest Rankin. It was good but it got too big which compromised the quality of education. They just passed a bond proposal for like $180 million dollars to bring it all up to speed.

Ole Ross Barnett Reservoir. Anyone wanna guess what he stood for?

Our Civil War era monuments get taken down and schools renamed all over New Orleans(in the 90s)
while Ross Barnett and George Wallace(I-10 Tunnel in Mobile) have prominent structures with their namesake.

Damn shame. These two shouldn't have a frickin sewer pipe named after them.
