I actually went to high school with two guys that became seals. They died together in a helicopter crash in afganistan in 2011

Amazing how everyone on the OT is a Seal, was a Seal, or knows a Seal.

Haha..not everyone. I'm 9 years prior service(USMC) and have lived in San Diego almost half my life.

If so, how badass are they?
I've worked with and know a handful. They are normal folks who decided to go the extra mile and persevere through some rigorous military training. I assure you, they are normal folks.

AF only has two bad arse AFSCs PJ and Conbat Controllers. Training overlaps quite a bit until the medical shite gets too complicated.
If you spend any amount of time around Hulbert Field you will meet CCs but probably won't know.

Very nice men. Great men. Very ordinary. Wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of their skill sets.

persevere
This is a key word for those guys.
Like in the Lone Survivor (book) they never once had the thought pop in their mind that they might lose. Some of the toughest motherfrickers on the planet and I'm so damn glad they're on our side.

I've worked a few both in the private sector and while I was enlisted. All are good guys that like to drink. They would all downplay their perceived badassery and instead give credit to their support teams.

I know a SEAL. He was a collegiate swimmer before joining the Navy after graduation. I would have never guessed that he would be a SEAL

They don't stand out mentally or physically?

If a guy says he was a SEAL and proceeds to tell a story about a mission he was assigned...odds are he wasn't a SEAL
Had a former SEAL as a manager at a telecommunications company once. He was one of the best leaders I've ever worked with.

I agree completely. Every SEAL I have ever met are very humble guys and never really talk about specifics of their service. I've learned a lot from a former SEAL about applying skills learned in the service to the private sector.

I know 1 SEAL from Baton Rouge.
Pretty normal guy. Expecting his second child. Was always a cool guy in HS, but also a guy that I didn't see lose any scraps in HS.

Stationed in NC at Fort Bragg knew a few PJ's.
Went through a few week course with one as well. Guy entered around age 25 had his degree, went enlisted tho. Was at the 24th, one of their most selective squadrons. Dude was straight edge and as smart as could be. Not exceptionally athletic though. When we did our PT tests in the course he was pretty underwhelming. Great great guy though

I like how everyone has known a 'handful of seals' in their day.... this board Ian so full of shite. I would guess not even half of the people some are assuming wee SEALS were not.
The statistical odds of someone 'have wielded with a couple over the years' are just astronomical.

Well, the guy I know is my age from Baton Rouge, went to Catholic High and married a girl from Baton Rouge who went to St. Joes.
They live in San Diego or Virginia Beach I think now, but I have seen them at weddings recently.
I'm sure other people here know him as well. 28 years old, initials MD. Very normal guy and cool dude.
ETA:
PapaPogey, a poster here, is/was really good friends with him.

Just wait til the OT starts talking about their dads. Every father of an OTer is an expert hand to hand fighter and was either a SEAL or ninja bodyguard. All those pudgy balding 5'9" old guys walking around Louisiana? Special Forces.

Also, I graduated with a chick at Ole Miss that was in our wedding that is from Coronado and lives there.
I think she is on her 3rd SEAL or SEAL in training BF in a row
Is there a term like "cleat chaser" for girls that only date service men?
I haven't met any of them though.

My daughter's uncle is a PJ, physically imposing guy. 6'4" and about 220 but as nice as can be.
