Wife and I recently started casually shopping for an RV and know nothing going in. We have two boys and a new little girl and want to get them out experiencing new things. Short weekend camping trips and tailgating mostly. Nothing too long distance yet either.

We went to Lafayette and looked at Primeaux RV. We are from close to Alexandria and looked at a local place today as well.

Any help or advice greatly appreciated!

Get you a "floater home".

Seriously though, you can go wrong with Tiffin Motorhomes.

I live in one with a wife and daughter and love it. we have a travel trailer and didn't know anything going in. I learned the most in the first week of actually using it. It's been about a year now and everything has gone smoothly.

Make sure you get one that will last bc they lose value quickly depending on the style you get.

I've had a bunch of them... have one now.

Just know... they're all pieces of shite. From a top of the line Prevost diesel pusher to a bumper pull travel trailer.

This is my retirement plan...

Except I'll have the one where the rear ramp becomes a deck kinda like this...

Spend winter months in places like Arizona or Florida. Summertime spent exploring the northern states. Have a Dually to pull it with and my Harley-Davidson of course as well.

It's true. Everything that can break will break.

My inlaws have a very sweet Tiffin Motorhome. That thing had stuff breaking on it in the first week. In the two years that they've owned it, it's had pumps go out and electronics fry. Perhaps that's just the nature of the beast but it seems a bit odd for something that's supposed to be luxurious.

I perosnally prefer a trailer over an RV. For starters, if you like staying at the campground more than just a weekend it's nice to have a truck to go out to the store or go get some firewood or something.

The benifit of a toy hauler is, if you ride, you can have both a truck and your motorcycle while camping. Or even if you don't ride, a toy hauler is perfect for hauling your golf cart. And as anyone who's ever stayed at a campground can tell you, a golf cart is a great thing to have.

Take the $ you would spend on the RV and take the kids to stay at top drawer resorts, Ritz Carlton, etc.

With what is leftover, you can buy them a car for college.

Bonus: far less pain in the arse.

I highly recommend renting one a fee times to see how you like it.

Try rvshare.com and you will be able to find one similar to what you are planning on buying and also be able to actually talk the owner of that specific rv and learn the positives and negatives.

My wife just about refuses to stay in any hotel now. She has always been grossed out by hotel rooms in general. But a few years ago she saw a news report where they checked hotel rooms ranging from budget places to five star resorts. In virtually every room, no matter how fancy the palce, when they'd turn on the blue light, it looked like a freaking slaughterhouse from all the "body fluids" on virtually everything. They also showed in the story how a lot of even the "exclusive" places change the bedding only like once a month, some even longer.

Anyway, that's when she decided from now on when we go on vacation she wants us to have a camper so we could have our own place with our own bed to stay in.

We've had our camper almost three years now and I've got to say we've loved it.

I'm also with just a bumper pull trailer especially if it's your first, alot less money and would it justify that much money if it set most of the time? Also I like to unhook and drive the truck of wanted

I was just using that as an example. That one looks to be a smaller and older model. The second pic I posted....

... is what we'll go with when the time comes. I'll pull it with something like this....

And spend my retirement years exploring the country with my wife. We'll do things like go set up in New Mexico for example. We might stay for a few weeks or even a month or more. While there we'll go around on either my Harley or the truck and just see the sights. We'll make our way around the country as we please. I'm looking forward to it.

I got a travel trailer (5th wheel with slides) for Christmas and love it. It just made sense to me to get one and live in it while I find land on the water that I want to buy. Then I can live in it on-site while I build my new house. I also didn't want to deal with the hassle of packing and moving again,

My bf has a job where he often travels to job-sites for weeks at a time so it will be easy for us to take it rather than stay in a hotel. We also have many road-trips planned already. Plus we can take our dog with us without any issues.

With your situation with the wife and kids, I think it is a worthy investment. Just to be able to avoid the hassle of packing and dealing with hotel rooms is worth it. The kids will love it.

I am very happy with mine and have many happy childhood memories of going off on vacations in the one we had when I was a kid.
