While we are derailing this thread, we could also debate praying to Mary.

Im not a hater. Some of my close friends are catholic. I just don't think praying to Mary is anywhere in the Bible.
But I also think we are derailing this thread.

Pretty sure this is a rare Baptist hating thread. Did I misread?
ETA: it is subtle

It started about a discussion regarding what is happening in a particular Baptist church.
Now we are off topic discussing how the Bible never says to pray to Mary (partially due to my sarcastic response to other off topic posts).

Every “Second Baptist” church I’ve encountered has been a predominantly black church, but I never knew the history of the name.
That is historically accurate. Their church was sometimes the Second, even when the congregation pre-dated the current White First Baptist church.

Let's get even more off track.
Do you say the Nicene creed and/or Apostles creed at Church?

I don't recall ever saying either at the nondenominational (close to Baptist but not SBC) church I attend.
I went to an Episcopalian elementary and we recited all sorts of stuff but that was so long ago I can't recall.

Yeah I expected the response. Now go watch that link

Well those "creeds" were not written until hundreds of years after Jesus crucifixion and resurrection, so I am not particularly worried about their wordage.

In regards to OP, I liked Ed Young Sr. in my time at the church and I hate to see things go down like they are.
He oversaw the church growing by huge amounts during his lengthy tenure and he knew every famous person in SBC realms. But that doesn't mean he should get to change the rules.

So ideas promulgated 1500 years+ after you are more careful over?

It’s not in the Bible and I’m not Catholic and I don’t agree with the teachings of the Catholic Church. So it’s not a great concern to me. But once again we’re derailing this thread.

Something I’ve always wondered is what’s the difference between a 1st Baptist and a 2nd Baptist? And I ask that as a guy who’s been a member of a Baptist (no number attached) church for over 20 years.
I have always wondered why Fifth Third Bank wasn't just called Fifteenth Bank

Yes. Though in the case of Houston both FBC and SBC are historically predominantly white (though fairly multicultural now) very large churches.

But why? Have you ever actually investigated the issues with Baptism.
Infant baptism is a very beautiful thing. I'm sad people don't realize the beauty in it. To know true faith like an infant is a really amazing thing.

Yes. But infant baptism isn’t necessarily a specific catholic argument as some protestant denominations do infant baptism. Though i’ve never personally attended one of these regularly.
Aside from other discussions, such as faith alone, whether communion is symbolic, and other topics, the one about praying to Mary really perplexes me. I’ve never seen that in the Bible.

Early church history.
You know Luther loved him some Marian doctrine!

Yep.
Good for them for not deviating in this one instance
