It's a way of making the audio more variant on YouTube, and it's a pretty cool sound. Feels like the sound is moving all around you. Some are better done than others, and they all require headphones. Here are few:
Faded by Alan Walker
Fix You by Coldplay
Some Arab song that sounds pretty sweet

Thanks, on the road with no headphones.

Don't worry, it's essentially just panning the audio back and forth. There's something else going on like a phase or eq shift that also changes back and forth.
Imo it does not improve the listening experience.

The 8D audio clips are lame. There are much better audio samples for this affect. And, they work best with nice headphones.
I've tried listening to this stuff with some crappy headphones or single driver in-ear monitors and it seems like just planning left to right.
But, when I listen with some better iems with more drivers it's better. I'm listening with some iems with 5 drivers in each ear and the affect is much more clear and distinct.

I just went down the rabbit hole with this.
It's definitely more than panning, phasing etc.
I have the shittiest headphones on and listening to some of these I feel like the entire building is rocking, its an amazing effect when you get a good one.
They are all not equal either, I've heard great ones and meh ones, but even on the meh ones its amazing
