Could just be my luck, but every Ford I've owned had the transmission go out just after 100K miles. (2001 Ranger, 2010 Explorer & 2014 F-150)

Will never buy a Ford again.

We've had two tahoes (2016 and a 2020) and never had a damned thing go wrong with either.

Our first Ford will be our last.

I had an Explorer for a work vehicle a while back and it was a good vehicle. Now I’ve got a dodge Durango and I like it slightly better. The Dodge has a slightly lower list price, while it has more features and gets better gas mileage.

2015 with 120k. We had to fix the blend door actuator which wasn’t cheap.

I forgot about this. I had to change it twice in the 2015 we had.

2019 Explorer, 54k, 3.5L XLT. Only issue was with the touch screen locking up but it happened during the warranty period so not cost to me.

Only regret, Wish I would have got the engine upgrade with the turbo. More power for mountain, hills driving during trips.

Got it.

I'm looking for about a 2016ish model with low mileage, I like to pay cash for vehicles.

They don't seem to hold their value as well as a Tahoe or Highlander so I wasn't sure about potential issues.

I have a 2016 Explorer Sport. When I first got it I had an issue with the steering rack. This was covered under my warranty. My other major issue was the water pump failure. This is an expensive fix...about $3500. These water pumps are internal and absolute hell to replace. If you buy one, make sure to flush your coolant every 30k miles, use distilled water in the system and only run synthetic oil in your engine. I love my ride but the water pump failure hurt. I'll never buy another vehicle with an internal water pump. Having to tear down an engine just to replace it is ridiculous.

The answer is….Highlander.
I rarely see older Explorers in the road. Newer ones are hit & miss with quality issues.

It was by far the worst vehicle we have ever owned.

Ford service is so so so bad compared to other manufacturers its laughable.

They make a fine truck though.
