It is history, but not a lot of it is New Orleans history. Did Robert E Lee ever even set foot in NOLA in his life?

I'm also unclear as to the circumstances in which the statues were put up in the first place, which I think is relevant.

Ultimately though, as I said before, it should be put to a vote in Orleans Parish.

It was just a big attention grab by Mitch, and it has now turned into this huge shite show. Nobody even cared about them in the first place

you honestly think they wont find some minority-owned construction company who would jump at the chance to wreck these statues?
I think there are people who have every intention of carrying out those threats, and I think the removal of the Lee statue might become a real disaster.

And kudos to the poster who pointed out that this is a convenient distraction from Mitch's FD problems. I agree that this has a lot to do with this grandstanding of his.

what construction are they doing right there?

not sure if it's started but they're gonna extend the streetcar tracks across City Park Avenue and make a transit hub on the neutral ground

Southerners at the time viewed Lee as symbol of southern honor. He was someone they could be proud of, even in defeat.

I don't think it's anything more complicated than that.

Why would tourists boycott Mardi Gras because of some statues being removed? They don't give a shite
