My wife had a cc compromised- because they were using the old card. She figured it out called cc company. The thief somehow figured it out by changing my wife’s address to a New Jersey address so they could get the new cards.
It was a shite show.
We had to get the US Postal Service involved putting in a requirement that the thieves couldn’t change her address online and had to do it in person.
We called capital one they were pretty helpful but the mailing address change was what screwing everything up.
She figured out the New Jersey address through the Baton Rouge Postal Service records.
She called the local police dept in New Jersey and the thief location was literally around the corner in a warehouse type building (google earth), they wouldn’t do anything.
So we called Sid Geautreau (personal friend) we really didn’t want to get him involved but we were out of options. Sid made some calls and because it involved the postal service etc that changed everything.
Heads rolled. I wish i could remember how the thieves were prosecuted.

Ummm your card was used right? Then you get your money back. Here’s an idea? How about the ppl start governing the criminals? Then crime will come to a screeching halt. It’s because physical systems aren’t hard enough. You kill wrong doers? I bet crime slows down immensely. But oh that’s wrong. Can’t do that. Let’s just let them continue…

A friend of ours was able to track hers down somehow, probably because she worked for the same bank as her debit card. It was some Nigerians in Atlanta. She called them up to berate them and they just laughed.

They always protect the thief.

All significant cc theft should always be followed up by filing a complaint with the police dept. The complaint is useful in motivating the cc company to fix the theft they allowed.
