Anyone ever had kennel cough spread to a human?

Did some research and saw that's possible but very rare. Had a wild bout of the flu, just spent 4 days in key west, picked up the lab last night from Bow Wow. She had some deep couchs all night and now I'm having them. You can ride out the cough correct?

It's my parents dog but they are basically retired and traveling so she's more mine. I also grew up with her

Kennel cough (Bordetella bronchiseptica) can transmit to humans but it is very rare. It usually only happens in severely immunocomprimised humans.
Whooping cough (Bordetella pertussis) is the bacteria that humans get. I would assume your tdap vaccine could produce some immunogenicity to kennel cough. Tdap usually contains a few recombinant proteins (expressed from yeast or E. coli) of B. pertussis whereas B. bronchiseptica dog vaccines are usually a avirulent live cultures given orally or intranasally (though some injectable versions contain cellular membrane extracts of B. bronchiseptica).

I'd think it's more coincidence than anything. I'd be pissed off at Bow Wow.
We foster dogs and several have had kennel cough, never had it spread to us. Neither have I heard of that happening.

Is you dog vaccinated against this? Take your dog to the vet.

Your dog got kennel cough at Bow Wow? Damn I'd be pissed. That place is supposed to be high quality, and I'm sure you paid a lot to board it there

Several viruses that cause tracheobronchitis in dogs can be transmitted to humans and vice versa. They are probably at greater risk from us than we are from them because gravity takes the viral particles down when we cough or sneeze. Unfortunately, we don't have vaccines for all of them so there is a risk anytime you have dogs in a congregational setting. Kinda like kids in day care.

Not sure why. Dogs are vaccinated against kennel cough but kennel cough is really just the common cold for dogs and there are so many strains of it that the vaccination only works on a few, kind of like the flu vaccine for people. Bow Wow can't do anything about it other than turn away dogs that are clearly sick when they are dropped off but that isn't always detectable in those few short minutes. If they notice a dog is sick they will quarantine them.
I'm not one to defend Bow Wow more than I have to, they nearly let my dog die and did absolutely nothing about it. But kennel cough is not really on them.
