Absolutely miserable from everyone that's gone

Have heard absolutely terrible things. Who wants to spend an entire night crammed into an area the width of your body, unable to move for the duration of it?

Ya for a few more minutes. I prefer being up all night and sleeping all day on the weekends during the summers, its too damn hot during the day.

If u do want to go, make sure u stay at a hotel right at Times Square....they block everything off and you are only allowed in some areas if u have access to the hotel. Atleast that what it was like 4 yrs ago.

It sucks.
People camp out there early only to be told to leave, when they clear it out and search it, then there is a mad rush to get back in.
Go somewhere else, make sure you buy tickets in advance, where ever that may be.

quote:Flew in around noon 12/31. Should have arrived a day ahead. Traffic was a bitch.
how did you go about planning it? Where did you stay and how long did you stay in NYC?
Stayed at the Wellington Arms then walked toward the ball drop area HOURS before. You will reach a point you cannot work through the crowd or barricades any more then you are stuck in the weather.
As said before, I would pay for a reserved place.
Stayed 4-5 nights. Drove to Boston then Killington VT for a week of skiing. Then back to NYC for a few more days. Then back to BR.
Was a good time.

Don't do it.
1. Eurotrash everywhere.
2. Crowded as frick.
3. Cold as frick.
4. Just not worth it.
Did it this past year with a couple of friends. Took a Greyhound bus (hilarious, trashy people). I came dressed in 50 layers and was still cold as hell. I ended up blowing it off and got drunk in this wonderful little establishment while watching Duke blow the game against A&M. Got muff shoved in my face on the subway, drunk people trying to start shite. Some drunk German girl got reverse Taken, had to help her friend track the taxi down with no reward. So actually, everything except for the actual New Year's festivities was fun.

We stayed at the Doubletree the first week of June for a family vacation. Perfect location for everything in that area. LINK

In the list of things I want to do at least once:
11,862 - Hang out with Michael Moore at a G8 Conference.
11,863 - Give a homeless meth head a room in my house.
11,864 - Check in to the hospial for a triple bypass.
11,865 - Get urinated on in Times Square on NYE.

I did it on NYE 06/07. We took the path train in from NJ and it takes you to near Penn Station. I recommend it as a way to get home because there wasn't much of a line to get back. The parking lot at the Harrison NJ station is really sketchy, but our car was there when we got back. We got to Times Square at about 3 PM and the streets were still open. The cops told us that they would close them at 6 PM and let people onto the street. We came back at 5 PM and they had already been closed long enough for the first 3 blocks to fill up.
We still got a pretty good spot and it was 7 hours of waiting and chatting after that - most people around us were cool but this one girl was annoying. From our vantage point, we could hear the concerts but weren't close enough to see them. It wasn't too cold for us because everyone was huddled so close together that you couldn't feel the wind. About 10 mins before midnight, people pulled out alcohol and whatever else because the cops didn't care at that point.
I'm glad to say that I did it once, but I probably won't do it again.

I hate Times Square just on a normal day. Too many people who are all rude.

We did it this past NYE. Went out there around 10:30 p.m. Could see the ball drop perfectly. Was surprised at how close we got going out there so late.

Did it in 2000. It was fun.

Sounds awful. It looks cool but to actually be there sound like a nightmare. So many better places I'd rather go for New Years.

That would be the absolute worst way to spend NYE.
