I was having some massive anxiety my senior year of college between my dad being in bad shape and trying to juggle senior year of chem engineering and my doc suggested that I take something for it to see if it helped. First he started me on Lexapro, but after about 6 weeks nothing had improved except for unwanted side effects. Went to Zoloft after tapering off Lex, and around the fourth day I remember going to sleep that night and waking up at some point afterward suffering extreme paranoia and hallucinations. Ended up walking around the house and yard all night thinking people were breaking in and visually seeing said attackers. I finally snapped out of it, which then we found out it was serotonin syndrome. Scariest thing I've ever experienced and the experience alone was enough to make me decide to handle my shite without SSRI's and just up my gym time. It wasn't a complete solution but it was much better than what I had gotten from anxiety drugs. Once I was rational again, looking back at it before I had a clear understanding of what happened made me worried I was losing my mind and going crazy.
