Be careful at Whataburger or sports bars, especially if you have kids.

This came up when I Googled "Abilene".

See if Herschel Sims, and his cousin, Ronnell Sims, are around. Herschel was the higher ranked recruit, but Ronnall had the huge game against Katy for the 2009 5a Div.II State Championship. I watched it on Fox Sports Southwest.

It was such a big deal they made a movie about it.
It premiered in Abilene this past Sunday night, so maybe you can go see it.

A Franklinton team led by former LSU RB Terrance Magee lost to Abilene the next season. There was a thread about the matchup here on the LSU Recruiting Board.

Was there in June, visiting a cousin who worked at the AFB. One word, shithole. Best description I can come up with.

If you go to Perini’s be sure to make a reservation. And make it as far in advance as possible. It is really a great experience.

There are also several old missile silos (Atlas?). If you can find an agreeable landowner they will take you down into one. You would have to ask around. It sounds like you are interested in the military history. I heard that south of Abilene was one of the Japanese POW camps.

How do you know about Allen's?
Did some work in that area several years ago. Ate there every opportunity I got.

There is an old hotel in Big Spring that has been refurbished. I have never been but I hear it’s nice. Supposedly in its day it was one of the best.

Also. Abilene has a military museum. I think it’s the 12th Armor Division. Once again I haven’t been so I don’t know much about it.

It has taken me a long time to adjust to life in Abilene. But one thing I noticed right away is the respect the people of Abilene have for the military. There have been many very decorated veterans come from here.

I hope your trip is a success.
