What runway did Croce's plane depart from? Unless the area has changed significantly RWY 16/34 (now 17/35) had fairly clear pasture/fields at both ends...RWY 7/25 has rising terrain and significant trees beyond the western end of that runway. Went to daycare at the church across the Bypass from the end of 7/25...
I am pretty sure it was 25, there were more obstacles to deal with at that time, they cleaned up the area some after that crash, but even into the late 70s there were power lines right before the threshold of 17, they eventually moved them.

My Dad taught at NSU and I was a kid so these were the rumors going around town: 1. They (the band) were at a Hotel in Natchitoches and the police got called the result of which the band left that night not early in the morning
They were scheduled to leave that night.
I saw on some show that when he booked NSU he was pretty much a nobody, got sick, had to cancel, but promised to come back. Then, he got huge with Operator, Leroy Brown, etc. Most acts would've bought out of the promise and go some place bigger than NSU. Seemed to be a man of his word.
