Anybody know anything about Northshore Sportsplex?

Charles Tracey is the owner of this place and the head coach, but I don't see anything about where he went to college or anything like that. Just some stuff about being on biddy teams in the 70s.
Anybody have kids that go there? Trying to find an AAU program on the Northshore that's worth a damn?

I don't know about his background but he gets great results. My friend has worked with him and likes Tracey a lot. I think his daughter played college basketball if I remember correctly

Is it similar to the Gulfport one? Hammond has the big one by Ronnie's. What city?

He's from Kennahbra. Grew up in Driftwood. Played high school ball at De La Salle. Went to SLU, but didn't play for them. His brother, Dennis, played for LSU w/ Shaq. Charles was a better athlete than Dennis.
Charles was ridiculously fast and could jump higher than any other white boy and most black guys. He looks just like he did 30-35 years ago, except he's bald. He might even be a little skinnier, although that hardly seems possible.
He's a great guy and a good coach. He gets after the kids pretty hard and might even throw the occasional shoe, but that's his thing and most kids love him for it.

Thanks for the info! I had heard a little about his approach to coaching, but this info came from Mandeville folks whose kids need some discipline.

He's coached a bunch of local high school athletes. Elise Reilly played for him (she set a bunch of records at Mandeville High).
It shouldn't be to hard to find someone who currently has a kid working under Charles. I have 4 or 5 friends or cousins who have their kids at Northshore. If you're on FB, maybe try checking Charles and/or Northshore Sportsplex's friends list (or Kris Troncoso's page) to see who you know.

As far as his approach to coaching goes, he's big on fundamentals, but also aggression and mental toughness. I think anyone playing for him should expect to get yelled at. Some more than others probably, but everyone gets pushed to excel.

Are you saying his AAU program isn't good?

It's probably great for development of not so good players, but it's not a typical/competitive aau program.
