There are months, even years where I'm fine, then I'll hear about someone close to me or my age die of something, and then I obsess over it happening to me for a while, then I go back to normal until it happens again.
Got really bad after a buddy of mine died from melanoma since i'm in the sun all the time.

When I was younger back as a freshman in college, I had some health concerns where I was scared about my heart being messed up. I was constantly having pain in my chest which was causing anxiety thinking I was gonna drop dead at any point. After a couple of doctors not really helping, I found a guy who thought I might have esophagus issues.
End up going to gastro and they stuck a camera down my throat and saw I was having bad inflammation in my esophagus due to heartburn. Its the reason i quit smoking (only smoked for a couple of my party years). Ive been fine since then, but I understand how health concerns can throw someone into a rough state of mind.

I imagine this is common in the social media age.
Years ago you'd probably hear about classmates or old friends dying weeks, months, years after the fact. Now, not only do you know, but often you live the experience following a Facebook account or a blog.
The connectedness is good in that it makes us more available to help and support, but it's probably bad in that it connects us far closer to tragedy than we would have been in prior decades. That, and the attention whoring by people who want to use someone's illness to their fricked-up advantage, of course.

I have been worried that I have melanoma ever since I first opened this thread.

Same thing though mine was a recurring muscular issue in my chest. I was a 24 year old in constant fear that my heart was going to seize up, it was awful.

When I look up symptoms that I'm having on WebMD I always leave thinking that I have a terminal illness.

Ask Count Chocula if he is still alive.

Yep, on WedMD a hangnail means you have finger cancer or AIDS.

I don't get sick and I think I am immortal, so I don't worry about death or illness.

"How's your mother?"
- She's on her way out.
"We all are, act accordingly."

quote:yeah man it’s tough to focus when your get spasms in your chest which I assume you did since you said muscle issue. The inflammation in my chest was causing the muscles to have spasms all the time. Even freaked my mom out that you could actually feel and see it happening on the outside of my chest.

It was a truly awakening experience to imagine a child that actually has a SERIOUS issue aka cancer. I couldnt imagine being a child going through that. If you make it out of cancer as a child, you will be one tough son of a gun by the time you are an adult.
