No issues here. Been with them over 30 years. Great service.

Financial Samuri published what should be an embarrassing article this morning about USAA's life insurance "customer service." It doesn't end well.

quote:

To my horror, I had been paying over $800/month to USAA for at least 18 months straight. That’s as far back as my bank’s custom search would let me go.

My stomach sank. How could I be so careless?

Back in late 2022, I thought I told USAA I wasn’t willing to renew my 10-year term life policy when they quoted me ~$450/month—a drastic jump from my original $40/month rate.

So why, without my consent, why did they charge me even more?

Since my original 10-year term policy with USAA expired in January 2023, I've paid over $20,000 in premiums to USAA despite thinking my policy had ended!

Cancelled my USAA auto policy after I was in an accident January of 2024. Other driver was at fault and didn't present the correct insurance on the scene. It spooked me so I filed through my USAA coverage expecting them to fight FOR me.

They did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING HELPFUL!!! Horrible to communicate with (and stupid), offered zero constructive guidance, and whenever I argued denials they argued that THEY needed to be made whole by the "at fault" driver's insurance for anything covered so they researched my claims and blamed it on the age and mileage of my truck. I told them that she was at fault, and anything mechanically wrong with my truck that didn't exist before the accident for up to a year should be covered! They refused to accept any appeals to the denials because the dealership case manager (moron) and their expert determined the mechanical issues to not be related to the accident despite my presented my records on my truck and later a separate independent mechanic who said the accident could've caused the issues.

My Lawyer said it was a waste of time/money to hire him for anything less than bodily injury.

Geico is much cheaper with the same coverage. I can't imagine worse customer service than what I experienced.

so I filed

That's the problem, and you should have learned this in your 20s. You NEVER file against your own insurance, even under promises they'll recoup it from the other driver's policy, etc. Suck up the rental car until you're reimbursed. There's all kind of fancy agent talk about abrogation, etc., but as long as they have someone to pin the accident on (you), nobody cares any longer. Your experience with the dipshit dealership should teach you never to use dealerships unless absolutely necessary, which the OT always fails to remember, and always bitches about. Caliber Collision probably wouldn't have treated you that way.

I filed on mine once, because a driver pulled out in front of me. I swerved, hit a curb, and my rear view mirror popped off. That was it. I thought I was supposed to "report" the encounter like a good little boy. I glued it back on myself, claimed no damages, and had an at fault accident on my record when I went to renew a year later.
