My wife was a rad tech for Northside in Atl and was making 24/hr two yrs ago. She passed her MRI shortly after and has been making 32/hr ever since

A job I think I would have liked is Echo Tech.All those radiology jobs seem to be boring as hell except maybe Interventional.

Auburn is a really pretty area but too far out for me. The convergence is beautiful. We moved here from Oakland a few years back and that is by far my favorite part of the sac area.

Rad Techs pan the table and scrub for all of those. Some get RCIS too which increases their pay.

Cath lab is a team. Usually one of the members is an RT.

Cath lab is my favorite! But I am doing brains now still fun but not as much instant gratification.

Unfortunately in California CVTs (scrub techs) are becoming a thing of the past. They want whoever scrubs to be RN or RT. That way the members of the team can be interchangeable. eg. 2 RNS and 2 RTs or 3RNs and 1 RT. Plus the fluoro license has to be held by both the doc and the person panning.

I make a lot on call. ED RNs would still make $80+ an hour but they wouldn't get all the stand by (call) pay. The OT is great here. 1.5x for hours over 8 and 2x hours over 12. They would ge all of that and free healthcare, pension etc. I only work 20 hours a week and do very well. I would guess ED RNs make around $130-$150K ish?

MBA holding Rad Tech here. 20+ years in the industry. Published journal author and industry representative. Before leaving the industry I managed 200+ employees at a nationally ranked healthcare system.
Pros - You’ll be hard pressed to find a job that pays as well with only two years of education at a community college.
Cons - you can’t stop at two years, gotta specialize and get that BS if you truly wanna move up or have advancement opportunities.
On-Call pays well; but, only if you are in a sleepy town where call backs are infrequent. Otherwise it’s a living hell. The top end of the spectrum is $80-100K. Maybe more in high cost of living cities in the Northeast or West Coast. Wanna travel to cover maternity leave or live on a compound in Qatar? That pays well too.

No I am east in Sacramento. I am 2 hours from the city and 1.5 hours from South Lake Tahoe. Its hot as hell here and boring compared to the Bay Area but it has good schools and is a nice place to raise my daughters. My husband and I would have stayed in Oakland forever but not once we had kids.
