(taken from outdoor board) - Wondering if any of you from the Arcadia, Ruston area ever heard old timers talk of a lead mine at Mt Driskell? Years ago I spoke with a Mr Driskell (very old) and he told me of a mine he was taken to as a little boy. He said one night he was awakened by a loud noise that his father said it was the mine collapsing. ULM professor also told me there once was a mine there.

That’s further north and west than the area I grew up in. But my grandpa used to tell a story of some old timers in north lasalle/Caldwell parish going out into the woods and coming back with lead for bullets. Pre ww2 era.

ETA: I know that’s not what you were asking but I guess I’m just saying there could be lead in them there hills. Who knows.

I Just found out a few months back that there are several coal mines in northwest LA, south of Shreveport. So it wouldn't surprise me if there were lead mines in that area.

That was a gold mine. They just told the locals they were looking for lead.

Well, that’s all sedimentary rock from what I can tell. Don’t see how there could be veins of metal ore in those rocks. But hell, who knows.

Those are open pit strip mining for lignite coal in Desoto parish, a few miles west of I-49.

It's pretty good, about a town of women where all the men died in a mine like Bienville Parish.

Elsewhere in North America, there are sedimentary rocks that have what's called "boxwork" structures in them, which are left over vein fillings of cracks in rocks that accumulated over time, and the boxworks themselves could be refined to an impure lead like product.
