Been having a million dollar idea. Just never went thru with it. And yes, it's something everybody uses every day.
Someone already said the OP's mom

My great, great Grandfather actually invented the toilet many moons ago..however, he didn't get credit for it. Someone came along later and put a hole in it and they got the credit
Sounds like your grandpa just invented a poop collecting bowl

There has been more money made by people with a great idea that didn't bother to patent it. They just produce it and market it, if it happens to become so successful that someone copies it and also sells it there are worse problems to have.

I invented the "efficiency improvement" of a common large public use "product" when I was in like jr high.
I told my dad my idea, and he appeased me with starting to look into the high-level technicals, process to get it done, etc. Essentially nerding out, and of course I got bored as a 12yo.
Decade or so later I saw/experienced the concept I "invented" when I was younger, being used over in Monte Carlo. Which was pretty cool.
I'm always looking for more efficient ways to improve process, so it was nice little reassurance that I'm not to shabby at it. Especially since I tend to be the type that is ahead of the curve trying to convince/sell people on what I'm trying to do.
