Wife had a 2014.
What I liked
It was comfortable and bigger than many SUVs in class. It had plenty of storage, even with 3rd seats in use.
What I did not like
Catalytic converters disentigrated because of a leak on the engine and had to replace.
Timing chain had to be replaced, no big deal right. The way they designed the car, you have to drop the engine out to replace the timing chain.
So a job that should cost a few hundred dollars, becomes thousands. At that point we sold it and did not replace the timing chain.
We do not regret buying it, but I would never buy one again. We passed over 100,000 miles with it before those mechanical issues happened.

We had a Terrain. Had more than normal “issues” for sure.
Pollution sensors
Cracked exhaust manifold
Then the PoS burns all of its oil and seizes 2 weeks after an oil change. There’s a recall but “oh look”, ours was 5k miles above the permitted mileage for the recall

We had a 15 and didn’t have any issues with it, Traded it in, but one thing I did notice was that the resell value is absolutely awful. We got hammered on the value. It’s a very common thing with the American made mid size suvs. They don’t hold Their value at all.

My wife had an 09... The transmission went out with 75K miles on it... Found out the 07, 08 and 09s had the same issues..
It wasn't so much the GM product but the type of transmission they had in it... They had that same type in Nissan Muranos.. and they had trouble in their's as well..
We just purchased a '19 Traverse.. It's bigger than the Acadia and it seats 7, where the Acadia just seats 6..

The Enclave is nice, and even has a upgrade similar to a Denali pkg.
The latest generation Enclave and Acadia are pretty solid.
I don't like the Enclave because it has that start/stop feature. You can't turn it off either. Buick is slowly adding an override switch to their cars, but it hasn't made it to the Enclave yet.
If you can put up with that, they latest models are very good. I'd just be surprised to see a guy driving an Acadia.

Talked to a top-notch mechanic about them. He said that anyone who owned one or any other similar GM vehicle should sell them before they reach 75,000 miles. (If the engine had not already given up).

The first gen had timing chain issues with the 3.6L motor. They corrected all of that a few years back.
New ones are pretty solid. I wouldn't call them fast, but they aren't really slow either. The Acadia is probably the largest vehicle they make that doesn't have a V8 engine.

Get the Buick Enclave instead. Most premium features come standard and it’s a nicer ride

Bought a 2012 about 2 years ago and haven't had any real issues. Replaced the condenser but that's it. It's the wife's and she loves it. Made several road trips in it with no problem whatsoever.
1 owner prior to us. Was a little old couple who kept it up religiously. Had receipts from every oil change and every pm done. Only reason he got rid of it is because he bought his wife a new car every 100k miles.

Yeah that was the first gen. GMC has multiple versions of what is essentially the same engine block (3.6L V6 DOHC).
The 3.6L engine used in the previous generation Acadia (LLT engine designation) had some known timing chain issues that they had to correct. I think GMC made a mistake by not offering it with the 5.3L V8 engine on a vehicle that size too. They upgraded the LTT engine with better valve train sometime in 2011 or 2012, but I'm not sure when exactly.
The newer Acadia is slightly smaller/lighter and has the upgraded LFX engine from the LaCrosse. The new ones are actually very good vehicles. No known problems with the LFX, and I think they are up about 25 horsepower over the original. The LFX featured beefed up valve train to accommodate twin turbos in the smaller Cadillac sports car (and cylinder deactivation in some Buicks). It was actually ranked one of Ward's 10 best engines for 2016. LINK
I would definitely recommend the latest Acadia (or Enclave if you need more space). The newer ones have the really good version of that motor, but GMC also elected to not install automatic start/stop on the Acadia like they did in the Enclave. I find that feature annoying. The 2020 Acadia will have it, but it will also have a defeat button.
While the new one is sturdy, I don't think I'd would buy one used from the previous body style though unless it was build on or after the 2012 Model Year.

She is also looking at Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave, for comparison sake.
Same vehicle, different skin

I’m curious to know what the actual difference is since they are literally the same car (that just don’t share certain features like the start-stop).........

I vacuumed quite a few at Don’s Car Wash on Ryan St.

Actually they are not anymore. The latest Acadia is shorter and has a shorter wheelbase now.
Same chassis. Different size.

Long term she would be much happier with a Toyota Highlander.

My wife has had 2....haven't had a single problem with either one other than the bluetooth microphone went out on her old one...warranty replaced it and it worked like a charm.

Had a 2009 also, nothing but problems.

Yes that is a shitty thing about the new ones....my wife has a 2018 Denali....it is even narrower on the inside if that makes sense.
